I learned today that AOL Instant Messenger can send text messages to US phones.
Just send an IM to the phone number, including area code, with a +1 in front of it. So for example: +1(123)456-7890.
When the recipient replies, that shows up right in the IM window.
Neat! Might save me a bit of money, given that Verizon charges 10 cents per message sent or received.

Chad, you can have AIM forward instant messages to your cell phone, also. It’s a nice little feature.
And to get out of paying ten cents a text message, sign up for a text messaging plan. I pay $2 for 100 messages. That’s like paying for 20 and getting 80 free.
Thanks! I’m going to try this right away! Cingulair also charges 10 cents a pop, unless of course you pay for a Plan, at which point, of course, you’re still paying. Also typing is way easier on the computer.
